Rumor Mill…

Jon Heyman’s latest column does a fine job analyzing Mark Teixeira’s future.  To sum it up:

  • Heyman’s source expects the asking price to be around ten years and $200MM.  Personally, I don’t see him getting a term nearly that long.
  • Heyman and his sources do not see the Braves re-signing Tex.
  • The suitors, in order of likelihood: Yankees, Mets, Orioles, Mariners, Braves, Red Sox, Giants.  A battle of the New York powers is a reasonable prediction - both clubs should have first base open and the market for the position is otherwise poor.

In other news:

Yankees Remain Cautious With A-Rod’s Quad - Rodriguez is eligible to come off the disabled list on May 14, but wouldn’t comment on whether or not the team will permit him to return to the field right away.

According to the Daily News, Orlando Hernandez has taken off the protective boot and has been cleared to do light throwing and jogging, “though his bunion remains.”

It’s early and nothing is imminent, so hopefully A-Rod takes it slow, quads can be very sketchy injuries…

FTR, El Duque has to be almost 50 by now… =)
