Confessions of a Baseball Drama King

Alright I have a confession to make. During this past off-season, I was one of countless Yankee fans that were glad that Alex Rodriguez opted out of his contract and said goodbye to the Yankees. I personally thought he was an unlucky curse. (He wears number 13; The Red Sox broke the curse of all curses, Boston wins 2nd World Series in 4 years.) But dear God, the combination of Alberto Gonzalez, Morgan Ensberg, and Wilson Betemit has been more unbearable to watch than A-Rod’s postseason play. They have been awful.

I was lucky enough to watch 2 of the 9 home games that the Yankees have lost. A-Rod was injured for both games I attended. I took my little cousin to the game and he asks me who’s playing third?  I replied, “Some Bum” Every time the Yankees didn’t score with runners in scoring position, we screamed “YA BUMM!!!” What have I been saying when runners have been in scoring position and nobody is there to bring them in??? “What the hell A-Rod! You little girl! Rub a little Bengay, or Tiger Balm on that quad. I’m sure you can ring the door bell of your Miami neighbor Mr. Shaquille O’Neal and ask him if he has any extra strength Icy Hot Patches lying around.  I’m sure he can spare a few! (Rumor has it, that he is selling his house. I think the Icy Patches are throw ins with the 32 million dollar house.) Anyway man up and play already! We miss you! We need you! Doesn’t he know how expensive watching the Yankees lose at home during cold April and May nights are becoming? Doesn’t he realize how motionless a crowd can get when their team is down?  The only thing that can keep you warm is food!  Doesn’t he know how expensive Yankee Stadium concession stands have become?

I’m sick of watching these reject utility players trying to fill A-Rods shoes. This is worse than listening to Mets fans cry and complaining about how everything is Willie Randolph’s fault. This year he has somehow become like A-Rod. Yankees fans like to blame everything on A-Rod. Yankees are losing…blame A-Rod. Yankees can’t hit….blame A-Rod. The Mets can’t hit… blame Willie!  Reyes has lost his Mojo….blame Willie! In all fairness New York is a place where “What have you done for me lately?” is etched in the minds of every fan. We stupidly only realize how much we miss something, only when that piece we take for granted is removed. I will confess, that am I am damn happy that A-Rod is coming back after this weekend. I realize that it is A-Rod’s fault that the Yankees are in last place… Hate him or love him he puts fear in the Yankees lineup. And Mets fans should realize that Willie Randolph is not the reason the Mets are struggling. Maybe they should take a cue from the Nationals and start their own cheers to motivate their fellow teammates. They have to do something to get back their Mojo, but come Monday we will see who Met and Yankee fans will be blaming.
