Other golfers stand aside in awe of Tiger’s rally

I am still marveling at the performance Tiger Woods put on yesterday. The best description I have is that it was sort of like magic.
Who can believe that, within 1 hour, the same golfer (who was hobbling up the fairway with his driver as a cane) would proceed to eagle 2 holes — with miraculous bombs of 65 + 35 plus feet, with side winding, downhill breaks of some 10 and 5 feet!! Houdini.
The first eagle came on the same hole that Phil Mickelson took a quadruple bogey and Ernie Els took a bogey.
And then, to top it all off, Tiger throws in a birdie chip in from the rough on 17, which even he admitted he hit too hard and was just lucky to go in on the bounce!
Had Tiger made just 1 of those shots or putts yesterday, it would have been spectacular. The fact that he made all 3 of those incredible shots within the span of about 1 hour is testament to how amazing the guy is. He never ceases to amaze.

Saturday(NY) baseball wrapup

The Mets were rained out last night and will make it up today as a part of a day night double header. John Maine will start Game 1 at 1:10 pm, while Pedro Martinez will start Game 2.
Yankee notes from yesterday :
Mike Mussina did it again as the Yankees beat the Astros 8-4. The Moose is having a year nobody expected, even himself.
Slumping Robinson Cano had a big hit off the bench.Girardi first tried to sell the move as just giving Cano a day off to rest. But eventually he admitted that his second baseman is struggling.”He’s having a tough time being a little bit consistent this year,” he said. “It seems like he’s had three good days and a couple of bad days.”
Cano didn’t get the entire game off. He pinch hit in the eighth inning and contributed an RBI single to help the Yankees to an 8-4 victory. It was only his second RBI since May 25.”That was big for me,” Cano said. “I feel a little better.”
ALSO: Alex Rodriguez’s two RBI gave him 1,537 in his career, tying Joe DiMaggio for 42nd place in history. … Girardi shifted the rotation and will have Andy Pettitte start on Tuesday so he can stay on his regular five-day routine.
Wille Randolph notes:
Willie Randolph sat in front of the assembled media in the interview room at Shea, talking about his new everything-must-go haircut
“I did it myself, too,” the Mets’ manager said before the rain washed away last night’s vs. Texas. “I didn’t use a razor. I just used the straight clippers. … It’s summertime. It’s hot. It feels good.”
“I think I’m always at my calmest under pressure,” Randolph said. “That’s the way I grew up.
“I’m probably pushing the hammer more when we’re doing well than when things aren’t going well. Because I know that when things aren’t going the way they’re supposed to go, you can’t panic or overreact. As the leader of this ball club, I don’t want my players to feel that kind of pressure. So my sense of humor has always been there. I think I’m a pretty funny guy.”
*Hey Willie no one has been laughing over how the Mets have been playing lately, dropping six of seven before the 7-1 win on Friday night.
ALSO: the buzz from Shea Stadium is that Chris Aguilawill be demoted tonight, when newly acquired Trot Nixon arrives to the ballpark…in fact, aguila was seen packing up his stuff last night, as though he had already heard the news…
There’s just one guy in the major leagues who has played every inning of every game this season - David Wright. “It’s a long season and you want to do what’s best for the team and for you personally in the long run,” Wright said. “But at the same time, when the team isn’t playing all that well, you want to be in there and try to get the job done and be one of the guys who gets us on the right track.
