The Manuel Era
17. June 2008 by Glendo.
I guess I got what I asked for. Although the Mets brass handled this so poorly, Randolph deserved better. Winning 3 out of 4, then fire your manager in the dead of night at 3:15am ET when everyone is sleeping is gutless. Jerk of the week nominee.
But now its team to look forward as Jerry Manuel takes over for the rest of the year. Manuel has managed before, he manged the White Sox for a number of years, winning the AL manger of the year in 2000. There is really no pressure on Manuel, if he wins he is a savior, if he loses its because the team isn’t very good.
Ken Oberkfell, Luis Aguayo and Dan Warthen will be joining the staff.
Omar you better hope Jerry can turn this team around because your next buddy.
Last nights game was an ugly win, but a win is a win. Beltran, playing DH, it 2 homers. Wright and Castillo had 2 RBIs each in a 9-6 Mets win over the Angels. Pelfrey got his first win since his second start of the season and Wagner got the save.
In Jerry Manuel’s first game as manager the Mets will pitch Johan Santana, which is probably the guy Jerry wants on the mound, against the Angels John Lackey.

Mets name Manuel interim manager
17. June 2008 by gchacko.
What took months to develop and weeks to transpire has now become official. The Mets dismissed Willie Randolph and two coaches early Tuesday morning, bringing an abrupt end to the speculation that had enveloped the team all month. Bench coach Jerry Manuel has assumed duties as interim manager.
Roughly two hours after their 9-6 win over the Angels, the Mets announced that Randolph, pitching coach Rick Peterson and first-base coach Tom Nieto had been relieved of their duties. Triple-A New Orleans manager Ken Oberkfell has joined the Major League staff, presumably as the new bench coach, and New Orleans pitching coach Dan Warthen has assumed that same role with the Mets. Field coordinator Luis Aguayo has also joined the Major League staff.
The Mets will hold a formal press conference at Angel Stadium on Tuesday afternoon at 5 ET.
