Back home, Mets look to ride momentum

The Mets pulled one out against the Phillies last night, 10-9. The Mets were up 10-2 at one point, but nothing comes easy with this team. 10-7 going to the bottom of the ninth and Billy Wagner promptly gives up 2 runs to make it a one run game. With the tying run on second base after a bad throw by Beltran, Wagner got Jayson Werth to fly out to right field. The Mets moved above .500 for the first time since June 5th.

The Mets go on the road and take 3 of 4 from the first place Phillies and are just now 2 games back in the loss. The Mets finish a tough 12 game stretch with a 7-5 record, not bad as 9 of those games were on the road. The Mets will look to keep up their good play as they welcome in the Giants and Rockies for 6 games before the break. They need to take these series and go 3 or 4 games above .500 into the break and maybe in first place in the NL East.

The beneficiary of more impressive run support, the Mets have scored a combined 24 runs over his last two starts, Pelfrey won his fourth straight decision last Thursday in St. Louis. Certainly, he deserved it even without the offense. Pelfrey allowed one run on six hits over seven innings, striking out six and walking two. He will face Giants ace Tim Lincecum in the opener tonight.
