Red Bulls Waste No Time…

Not long after the announcement of Claudio Reyna’s retirement, the Red Bulls were pleased to announce TWO new additions to their squad.

Jorge Rojas is a solid midfielder from Venezuela and at the age of 31 has already played in top leagues in Venezuela, Ecuador and Colombia.  Rojas has become the second most capped player for the Venezuelan national team (82 matches), and has filled in as captain plenty of times.

Juan Pietravallo is a young (26 y/o) midfielder from Argentina who has been playing in the Greek Super League and has bounced around local Argentinian leagues in the past few years.

These moves add great speed and skill, especially from Rojas, to the sluggish Red Bulls offense.  While they haven’t had much time to create chemistry with their new teammates, both will be eligible and most likely see a decent amount of playing time in Saturday’s match against LA Galaxy.

A+ Red Bulls….one more key pickup can really help raise them to the upper class of MLS.

Arod get out of your own way!

Alex Rodriguez is perhaps one of the greatest player to ever play the game. Someone should tell him that. Someone should also tell him to get out of his own way. Alex Rodriquez the person should really step aside and let AROD the player, play the game of baseball.  I dont know if anyone noticed what I noticed during the Allstar game, (not the fact that he left hours before 1:40am when the game finally ended) but the way he tries to be everyone’s friend. It  comes off as extremely annoying. During the pregame introduction he got annouced right after Chipper Jones for the Allstar third basemans. He greeted Chipper with a big hug. The face on Jones’ face was priceless. It was that “wtf is this guy hugging me with a smile and akward laugh” kinda reaction. He does this with alot of the players and also with the media. He tires to be friends with everyone. When he does this he lets out too much about his personal life. Nobody likes that guy who tries overly hard to  liked. He doesn’t understand that you can’t be friends with everyone.

Arod

Alex Rodriguez really needs to hire a better PR rep. Someone who can cover up his dumb stupid behavior. I mean what celebrity is dumb enough to be seen out in public with a stripper?  If he really did mess around with Madonna, his PR reps need to come up with some damn better excuses than the ones that they have been using. Derek Jeter is probably the most private high profile athlete. Derek Jeter is also a man whore. Everyone knows this, yet everyone loves him. He could have sex with Miley Cyrus and he would be forgiven and still be loved.  He has the best PR people working for him.  He needs to throw Arod a line or something. He needs to help Arod from drowning for the good of the Yankees. Jeter only answers baseball questions. This is what Arod needs to do. This way Arod would only have to be questioned about his baseball life. When a team has to constantly answer questions about a certain teammate, it gets really annoying and frustrating.  This kills the team’s chemistry. And hey maybe some of the Yankees really like to listen to Madonna before pregame. Now what are they going to do? When Alex Rodriquez finally gets out of his own way, then only can the Yankees finally make a serious run at the playoffs.

Wagner making a statement to Phillies

After lastnight’s great comeback win over the Reds the Mets moved into a first place tie with the Phillies.

“We’ve got their attention,” Wagner said.  “Now that we have it, what do we do with it?”

“Now we’re even again, and now that we’re equal, we have to show them that … we’re the better team.”

At this point the Mets are more than a distraction to the Phillies. Until Wagner secured his 23rd save on Thursday, no National League team had won 10 consecutive games this season. Only the Twins had, in June. That the Mets have extended their streak by seven games after winning three in a row against the Phillies and against lesser teams doesn’t matter. The Phillies play the Giants, Rockies and Reds, too.

Moreover, until Thursday night, the Mets had won by outhitting and outpitching their opponents by wide margins. This victory was the result of perseverance. The pitchers, starter Johan Santana and his followers, allowed 12 hits, five walks and twice as many runs as the Mets had allowed in sweeping their six-game homestand.

“They’ve picked us up, tonight we picked up the pitchers,” Marlon Anderson said.
