Around the majors…

  • ESPN’s Andrew Marchand says the deadline for a Manny trade might be 3pm CST today, as he has to sign paperwork 24 hours prior to a deal to waive his no-trade rights. I have also read that radio callers in Boston are asking for a Mannny for Beltran deal…
  • According to SI.com’s Jon Heyman the Rays, Mets, D’Backs, and Cardinals are also in the Jason bay chase.
  • According to Ken Rosenthal, the Mets are not the only ones interested in Ibanez, apparently the Cubs have checked in on him… however, as of now the asking price for Ibanez is still too high.
  • Scott Miller of CBSSports.com is reporting that Maddux has rejected the trade request by the GM to the Phillies.
  • Royals outfielder José Guillen denied an online report by ESPNdeportes.com that surfaced Tuesday claiming he wants out of Kansas City because of a fractured relationship with manager Trey Hillman.
  • John Maine’s rotator cuff strain has the Mets looking at pitching.  Graziano suggests names like Livan Hernandez, Paul Byrd, and Jarrod Washburn.
  • Gregg Zaun is unhappy about his reduced role with the Blue Jays, and has asked the team to try trading him before Thursday’s deadline.
  • The Marlins could be closer to a deal to acquire left-handed reliever Arthur Rhodes from the Seattle Mariners, who are looking only for a midlevel minor-league prospect in return.

Artest set to join T-Mac and Yao

The Houston Rockets have reached an agreement to acquire forward Ron Artest from the Sacramento Kings, the Houston Chronicle is reporting.

The Rockets will give up guard Bobby Jackson, a No. 1 draft pick next season and another player that the individual with knowledge of the trade could not name.

It is believed that rookie Donte Greene is included in the deal, which will prevent the deal from going through until August 14, when Greene is able to be dealt.

There could also be other players involved to make the money match but none that the Rockets would plan to keep. The Rockets will also send the Kings cash in excess of $1 million.

Tex to Angels

Sources close to the situation told ESPN.com’s Jayson Stark on Tuesday that Atlanta Braves first baseman Mark Teixeira is headed to the Los Angeles Angels for Casey Kotchman and minor league pitcher Steven Marek.

Kotchman was pulled off the field during pregame warmups at Fenway Park on Tuesday afternoon, further fueling speculation that a deal was in place.
