Adam Dunn to the D-Backs

Adam Dunn (and his Will Ferrellness) has been traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks.  In exchange for Dunn, Cincinnati will receive minor league pitcher Dallas Buck and two other players to be named later.

Dunn has long rumored to have been on the block, and the D-Backs finally stepped up and got a deal done.  Dunn is tied for the ML lead with 32 homers.  Although he has a .233 average, he can hit the ball a long way, drive people in, and gets on base a lot with an OBP of .373.

The D-Backs are currently 1.5 games ahead of the Joe Torre led Dodgers in the NL West.

This will provide a HUGE boost to their offense.  Great deal for Arizona, the same for Cincinnati as they look to the future.

The UFL Football League

The United Football League (UFL) is scheduled to “open” in the 2009 season with 6 teams: Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Orlando, New York and Hartford.

Familiar faces, Mark Cuban and the Wilpon group of NY, will be at least two of the owners.

There’s clearly lots of risk with these start up leagues, just ask Vince McMahon about the XFL.

One way that UFL commish Michael Huyghue hopes to soften the competition?  According to Michael there’s a “98 percent” chance that a team in the UFL signs Mike Vick.  That would be Vick’s way of showing he has put his past behind him before making a leap back into the NFL scene.

Interesting note: The New York team is said to be playing its home games at the Mets new home, Citi Field.  Lets see how happy the Mets are with their field being torn up during a pennant race in September/October…
