Mets look to stay hot vs. Astros
22. August 2008 by Glendo.
Last night on Carlos Delgado walk-off single in the ninth the Mets got the sweep of the Atlanta Braves. The Mets improved to a much more respectable 5-7 agaisnt the Braves this year with 6 games remaining between the two. The Mets are clicking on all clyinders right now. The starters are going deep into games, the offense has been getting big hits when they need too, the defense has been stellar, and the bullpen as actually pitched well the last couple of games. The Mets have won 13 of thier last 17 games.
The Mets will look to get some revenge this weekend as they welcome in the Houston Astros, who swept the Mets a couple weeks ago in Houston. The Mets will welcome back Ryan Church to the lineup after missing most of the summer. Church will likely start Friday and Saturday against the Astros, and then sit Sunday against left-handed starter Randy Wolf. The Mets will get to rest Fernando Tatis, while keeping the left-field platoon of Daniel Murphy and Nick Evans intact.
“He was a very good player for us for a while,” Manuel said of Church. “Probably our best player for a long time. So I’d like to see him get back to that.”
According to Mets.com, also joining the Mets on Friday will be Luis Castillo, though his presence will not come complete with the same expectations. Castillo has used up all of his allotted Minor League rehab time, and so he will travel to New York to work out in front of a group of Mets coaches and staff. There, the team will decide whether to activate Castillo, or to send him to Port St. Lucie, Fla., for an additional slate of simulated games.
