  • Toronto traded shortstop David Eckstein to Arizona on Sunday night in exchange for minor league pitcher Chad Beck
  • Kent will undergo surgery to repair torn cartilage in his left knee on Tuesday. It is possible that he may comeback before the end of the season.
  • Victor Martinez was in the lineup Friday for the first time since June 11. Martinez was activated off the disabled list, where he had been for over two months while recovering from arthroscopic surgery to remove loose bodies from his right elbow.
  • Aviles left the Royals’ game against the Detroit Tigers on Sunday after he was hit in the hand with a pitch. Aviles got hit while he was swinging at a pitch from rookie Armando Galarraga in the top of the seventh.
  • Lowell has been progressing as he comes back from a strained oblique muscle, but the Red Sox continue to be cautious with their third baseman
  • Pitcher Dontrelle Willis will return to the Tigers on Monday as part of their September roster expansion
  • White Sox slugger Jim Thome hit the 536th home run of his career on Sunday against the Red Sox, tying Mickey Mantle for 14th place on the career list
  • Youkilis missed Saturday’s 8-2 win over the visiting Chicago White Sox due to an illness.
